Perspectives

Stephanie Lim
At the young age of 14, Stephanie, has always been fascinated by the world of online environments and what we now call social media. Being an active community member across various online communities she found The New School determined to incorporate those interest into her studies. Along her academic journey she found a love for Film production and design. During her final year of her undergraduate studies she decided to continue her explorations in the Media Studies program continuing her studies in online networks environments, social media marketing, design and management.  She still is exploring the reasoning for online activity, engagement and behavior. Currently in her last semester of the Media Studies program, she is studying the various aspects of market research, and working towards completion of her Certificate in Media Management project. She is examining the evolution of social media advertising, the future of that field and strategic positioning in the field of digital media. She enjoys contributing to various projects, and further adding new skill sets to make her as versatile as possible like a Swiss Army Knife.

This project has led us down so many paths of discovery, that it is a never ending journey. With the ability to marry so many ideas into a project from various backgrounds where people can work individually and collaboratively is what makes this project so unique. One other appeal to this project is how we want to take the ideas of academics and present them outside of a traditional format that is accessible for the layman.

Nima has a background in Analytical Philosophy but he gets his inspirations from science fiction and geographic studies. He is born in Tehran, Iran and loves cities. His experience living in a modern third world city has influenced him in thinking about places as mediated spaces and people as story portals. His goal is to use the power of analogies and model thinking to creatively solve business problems.

I used to have a negative stigma towards online courses until this past semester. Collaborating on two intensive groups projects seemed daunting at first but using tools such as Google Docs, twitter and Google Hangout allowed us to be very productive, perhaps even more than if we met face to face. This research topic was interesting because it allowed us to look at platforms from another perspective. I think I got really excited when everyone realized that the design of the space and the influence of the surrounding ecosystem creates the dramaturgy. Looking at our group snapshots perhaps there is defninetly a new form of dramaturgy at hand: Digital Dramaturgy
